How did the various fan names come about?

The name of the fan is like the name of the baby when it is born, and it is named after the parent's surname. Every time a new fan is born, our ancestors will take an appropriate fan name. Since ancient times, all kinds of fans have a fan name associated with the material, shape, color, function and purpose of the fan. The role of the fan name can be summarized into five aspects:

Second, it is convenient for people to distinguish the types and varieties of fans.

Third, it is convenient for people to understand the origin and style characteristics of various fans.

Fourth, it is convenient for people to choose and use the fan.

Fifth, it is convenient for purchasing units to order production.

There are thousands of types and varieties of fans. Our ancestors named their fans according to their main materials, colors, shapes, functions and uses.

The pictures and names of ancient fans (multiple pictures) are named after place names, and some are named after scenic spots or surnames. In the Song Dynasty, the fan industry was prosperous all over the country, and fans with unique styles were formed everywhere. Such as Hang fan, Hao fan, Shu fan, Yellow fan, Yuezhou fan, Wuling fan, Jinling fan, etc. Among them, the Hang fan is the most famous.

Shu fans are mainly famous for their patterned fans and bamboo fans. The biggest feature of the pattern fan is light and thin. In ancient times, Weicheng County in Mianzhou (now Weicheng Township, Mianyang County) was once famous for "making a fan from a cocoon", and it was called a cotton fan.

The bamboo silk fan among the Shu fans is also famous in the world. In the Qing Dynasty, the bamboo silk fans woven by "Gong Shi" (Gong Juewu) were as thin as cicada wings, and could weave various folk patterns. His son Gong Yuzhang's weaving skills are better than his father's, who can weave the works of famous painters on the fan surface, forming Gong's unique style, so the fan he made is named "Gong fan".
